South Korean Relief Team’s Second Contingent Departs for Nepal, Replacing Returning First Contingent

[Financial News] The second contingent of the Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) departed for Nepal aboard a South Korean military transport aircraft (KC-330 Cygnus), carrying relief supplies.
The second contingent consists of just eight people—two each from the National Fire Agency (NFA), the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and the medical team. That is one-fifth the size of the 44-member first contingent. The second contingent is also expected to remain active for about a week.
On the 11th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the second contingent of the Korea Disaster Relief Team had departed for Nepal aboard a South Korean military transport aircraft (KC-330 Cygnus), carrying about four tons of relief supplies worth approximately 180 million won.
Once the second contingent arrives, the first contingent will return to South Korea aboard a military transport aircraft. The move constitutes a handover of duties.
The second contingent was limited to eight core personnel from MOFA, the NFA, KOICA, and the medical team, in line with its mission of supporting reconstruction and recovery efforts at the request of the Nepalese government.
The first contingent, comprising 44 members, was dispatched to the Batar area of Bagmati Province, Nepal, on the 2nd. After completing its 10-day mission, it is expected to return to South Korea aboard the military transport aircraft that arrived in Nepal that day.
The first contingent, which included personnel from the NFA, KOICA, and the medical team, conducted intensive search-and-rescue operations centered on the hydropower plant construction site where nine South Korean nationals had been working.
