[Financial News] 37 cultural cities across the country will showcase the results of projects utilizing local cultural resources in Miryang City, South Gyeongsang Province. They will share examples of cultural space utilization and youth startups, and present performances that highlight local traditions.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) on the 11th, the '2026 National Cultural City Expo' will be held from the 10th to the 13th in the area around Yeongnamnu Pavilion, Miryang, along the Miryang River. It was organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST), South Gyeongsang Province, and the National Council of Cultural Cities, with the theme 'United Locals, Creating the Future of Cities Together'.
The Cultural City initiative is a policy in which residents, local governments, and planners create regional brands based on unique cultural resources and enhance urban vitality. Since the first designation in 2019, 37 locations have been designated to date.
The Policy Promotion Hall introduces changes in seven areas, including resident participation, the utilization of cultural spaces, and the resolution of local issues, through case studies from each city. In each city's booth, officials explain representative cultural resources and major projects. The 12 first- and second-phase Cultural Cities, which initiated the project earlier, showcase the achievements they have accumulated in the special hall.
An art market featuring works by local artists and local content booths will also be operated. At the youth food booth, 10 teams that started businesses after completing the Miryang Cultural City project's 'Local Planner Training Course' will participate, offering food made from local ingredients and upcycled crafts.
The Youth Food Booth is a space where visitors can see the results of planner training leading to actual startups. When viewed alongside the promotional halls introducing city-specific policies, visitors can gain insight into how the Cultural City project translates into residents' economic activities.
At the opening ceremony at 5:20 p.m. on this day, the Miryang Arirang Arts Troupe's Young Talent Group will perform 'Arirang Dongdong'. It is a work that combines Miryang Arirang with jige rhythms and farming movements.
The water fireworks dance drama 'Mirimidongguk,' based on Miryang's old name, and the 'Miryanggang Eohwa Flower Fireworks Play,' inspired by the lights of fishing boats, continue into the night. You can enjoy the performances held on a special stage on the Miryang River with Yeongnamnu Pavilion, Miryang, as the backdrop.
Commendations from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism will be awarded to 10 individuals who contributed to the creation of cultural cities. Five locations, including Yeongwol County and Chungju, selected as 'Cultural Cities of the Year' in the 2025 performance evaluation, and Miryang, Suyeong-gu, Busan, and Sokcho City, which were selected as 'Best Cultural Cities,' will receive certificates and plaques.
Kim Young-soo, Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "Culture is the core foundation for making regions 'places people want to live in,'" adding, "I hope the public can personally experience the changes that culture has brought to the regions."
