Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il meets visiting East Timorese student delegation: "Hope they cherish memories of the global semiconductor city"

[Financial News, Yongin = Reporter Jang Chung-sik] Lee Sang-il, mayor of Yongin Special City in Gyeonggi Province, met with East Timorese students visiting Korea and spent time encouraging them.
On the afternoon of the 10th, Mayor Lee held a cordial conversation in the fourth-floor video conference room of Yongin City Hall with a delegation of students and officials from St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Secondary School in East Timor, who were visiting Yongin as part of a cultural exchange program.
About 10 people attended the meeting, including Rev. Petrus Buk Won SEO of Sanghyeon-dong Catholic Church, a nun from the Korean Martyrs' Association, and East Timorese students participating in the cultural exchange.
After exchanging prepared souvenirs with the East Timorese student delegation, Mayor Lee personally explained Yongin Special City's future vision as it advances into a world-class high-tech city, as well as its large-scale semiconductor projects.
Mayor Lee introduced Yongin Special City, with its population of 1.11 million, as the eighth-largest city in South Korea, emphasizing that it is "the birthplace of South Korea's semiconductor industry 43 years ago and a hub where massive investments by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and SK hynix are currently underway."
He continued, "Once the project is completed, Yongin will establish the world's largest semiconductor ecosystem within a single city," adding, "Building on investments by two companies that lead the global market in memory semiconductors, a core foundation of the AI era, Yongin will establish itself as a high-tech city leading South Korea's future."
Mayor Lee also said, "I sincerely welcome the visit of the students, priests, and nuns from St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Secondary School," adding, "I hope the students will make many diverse and enjoyable memories during their stay in Yongin and South Korea."
Meanwhile, the East Timorese student delegation, which visited Yongin City and the Yongin City Council to observe the local government's major administrative operations, toured representative local attractions such as Everland and the Korean Folk Village.
They plan to travel around the country, including Yongin, Seoul, Incheon, Suwon, and Andong, through the 14th to experience various aspects of Korean culture.
