'A Cup of Hope for Nepal': Ulsan College Holds Fundraising Event to Help Nepal

【Financial News Ulsan = Reporter Choi Su-sang】 Ulsan College held the “A Cup of Hope for Nepal” event to raise disaster relief funds for the people of Nepal, who suffered tremendous loss of life and property damage in severe flooding.
The event, held throughout the day on the 10th at the plaza in front of Cheongun International Hall on Ulsan College’s West Campus, was organized to help victims in Nepal struggling after the disaster. Nepalese international students enrolled at Ulsan College took the lead in the effort.
Ulsan College has 705 international students from 19 countries. Nepalese students make up the largest group, with 297 students.
On the day, Ulsan College students and faculty comforted and supported their Nepalese peers by participating in three programs: “A Cup of Hope,” a sharing café that sold coffee, tea, and other beverages and donated the proceeds; the voluntary “Hope Donation Box”; and “Messages of Hope to Nepal,” where participants wrote messages of encouragement and hope for the people of Nepal.

Gil Kang-muk, head of the Ulsan Immigration Office; Kim Jong-ok, director of the UIVC Ulsan International Volunteer Center; and the head of the Loke Nepal Community also visited the site and offered their support. The local community’s strong interest continued, with Elephant Factory, a company specializing in upcycling waste plastic, joining as a sponsor.
Budhathoki Binita, a Nepalese international student in the second year of the bachelor’s degree advanced major program in the Department of Global Business at Ulsan College, said, "I happened to be visiting my hometown at the time and had to watch the tragic accident unfold in real time." She added, "I joined the event because I wanted to offer even a little support while thinking of my neighbors and friends going through a difficult time. I am grateful that so many people came together and shared their support."
Lee Yeon-ju, director of the Office of International Affairs at Ulsan College, who oversaw the event, stated, "I hope this event will go beyond simply raising money and become an opportunity to raise awareness of Nepal’s situation and experience the meaning of sharing firsthand." She added, "We will continue working to build a culture in which international students and the local community care for one another and live together."
