LX Proposes AI-Powered Redevelopment of Aging Planned Cities, Predicting Construction Costs and Resident Contributions

[Financial News] Korea Land and Geospatial InformatiX Corporation (LX) has proposed applying artificial intelligence (AI) and digital twins to the redevelopment of aging planned cities. The plan is to virtually reconstruct urban spaces and predict construction costs and residents’ contributions, thereby improving the accuracy of redevelopment plans and the efficiency of project implementation.
LX said on the 10th that it held a conference on transforming aging planned cities into AI-powered smart cities at the 10th World Smart City Expo at BEXCO in Busan.
The event was organized to share the progress of redevelopment projects led by local governments since the Act on the Redevelopment of Aging Planned Cities took effect, as well as the achievements of support organizations such as LX and the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements. Participants also discussed ways to improve safety and living conditions in aging planned cities.
Choi Hoon-ho, a researcher at LX, introduced support services for local governments and residents using the Aging Planned City Redevelopment Platform. The platform supports local governments in developing master plans and provides digital-twin simulations that allow residents to compare and review redevelopment plans.
An electronic-consent function for processing consent procedures for redevelopment projects online was also presented. LX explained that digital twins and electronic consent can support residents’ decision-making and improve the convenience of redevelopment procedures.
LX will also consider developing functions that use AI to reconstruct urban spaces and predict construction costs and residents’ contributions for redevelopment projects. The corporation expects these functions to improve the precision of planning and reduce the time required to carry out projects.
Shim Byung-seop, head of LX’s Geospatial Information Division, said, "The redevelopment of aging planned cities is not simply an urban redevelopment project; it is a test bed for transforming cities into smart cities of the future by combining geospatial information and artificial intelligence. We will continue to enhance the transparency and momentum of redevelopment projects by adding AI analysis technology to the achievements demonstrated through digital-twin simulations and electronic consent."
