[Financial News] 'Seneca, To You Who Are Having Your Today Stolen' has returned to the top spot on Kyobo Book Centre's overall bestseller list. Amidst the continued strength of classics and philosophy books, re-covered editions featuring new designs have also attracted the attention of readers.
According to Kyobo Book Centre on the 10th, this book rose one spot from the previous week on the overall bestseller list for the first week of September. Choi In-seo's *Research Institute on Anomalies in Korean History*, which had been in first place for two consecutive weeks, dropped to second place, while Yu Rae-hyeok's *Aquarium* maintained third place.
Hermann Hesse's *Siddhartha* rose two spots to fourth place. Kim Ae-ran's *I Wrote That* took fifth place, while Yang Gui-ja's *Contradiction* climbed four spots to eighth. Jo A-ran's *Vocabulary of the Heart* jumped seven spots to tenth. Another work by Hesse, *Demian*, also made it into the top 20.
In the philosophy category, 'Nietzsche's Transcendental' ranked 7th, while 'Arthur Schopenhauer: Life Lessons' rose four spots to 31st. Sales of books related to Western philosophers at Kyobo Book Centre from January to August this year increased by 5% compared to the same period last year. Kyobo Book Centre's analysis indicates that books related to Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche led the sales growth.
Kyobo Book Centre explained that the box office success of the movie *Odyssey* is leading to increased purchases of the original book. Hyundae Jiseong’s translation of Homer's epic poem *The Odyssey* ranked 6th, while Eulyoo Publishing’s *The Odyssey* climbed two spots to 9th. Different translations of the same original work have entered the top 10 side by side.
Based on Kyobo Book Centre's category classification, four of the top 10 books were humanities books. Four novels were also included, with these two categories making up the majority of the top rankings.
Mark Manson's 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck' entered the overall rankings at 16th place with the 'Hangyodong Edition' featuring a character cover.
The sales share of this book by age group was highest among those in their 20s at 29.6%, followed by those in their 30s at 27.3% and those in their 40s at 24.7%. When gender and age were combined, women in their 20s accounted for the largest share of the total at 22.0%. The existing major purchasing demographic of those in their 30s and 40s also exceeded half, with a combined total of 52.0%.
A Kyobo Book Centre official analyzed, "Recover marketing tailored to the 20s demographic led to a successful rebound in rankings."
