【Financial News Daegu=Kim Jang-wook】Daegu Metropolitan City is focusing on targeting the Chinese inbound tourism market centered on Daegu International Airport.
Daegu Metropolitan City and the Tourism Division of the Daegu Foundation for Culture and Arts will participate in the Korea-China B2B Exchange Event, to be held at the Andong International Convention Center on the 11th, as part of their marketing efforts to attract Chinese tourists to Korea.
Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and organized by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the event is part of the Mega Familiarization Tour for China’s Top 100 Travel Agencies and Korea-China B2B Event. It is a large-scale business exchange gathering attended by approximately 350 people, including representatives and buyers from major Chinese travel companies, local governments in Korea, and travel agencies specializing in Chinese tourists.
Hwang Bo-ran, director of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, said, "We hope this event will serve as a catalyst for tangible results in attracting Chinese tourists," adding, "We will continue to actively promote Daegu’s appeal in the Chinese market and do our utmost to develop differentiated content to attract tourists."
Since early this year, the city has made multifaceted efforts to attract Chinese tourists, one of the major markets for travel to Korea. As a result, it achieved tangible results in the first half of the year by attracting its first Chinese charter flight package since the COVID-19 pandemic, operating the Yuncheng-Daegu route and bringing approximately 900 tourists to Daegu.
In particular, at this event, the city will participate in the Regional Tourism Presentation Linked to Local Airports and introduce Daegu tourism courses connected to Daegu International Airport.
It will also hold customized business consultations on developing Daegu’s tourism resources into products with Chinese travel agencies and buyers attending the B2B travel mart.
Meanwhile, DEXCO and Gonggam Seeds, a leading Daegu travel agency and a travel agency specializing in Chinese tourists, respectively, will also participate in the event and conduct promotional activities targeting the local travel industry.
Expectations for these promotional efforts are also rising, as four Gonggam Seeds products were selected as finalists in the 2026 Competition for Outstanding Travel Products by Travel Agencies Specializing in China, organized by the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA), demonstrating the strong product-planning capabilities of the local travel industry.
