Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Government make all-out efforts to build an advanced industrial ecosystem

[Financial News Daegu = Reporter Kim Jang-wook] Daegu Metropolitan City is making all-out efforts to build an advanced industrial ecosystem by organically cooperating with local industry, academia, and research institutes.
To this end, Daegu Metropolitan City will establish a super-regional cooperation system with the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Government and begin full-scale implementation of the '4-Pole 3-Special Science and Technology Innovation Support Project' starting in September.
According to the city, to promote projects in the Daegyeong region, Daegu Metropolitan City and the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Government plan to foster the area into a super-regional innovation hub centered on future industries by combining Daegu's AI and software innovation capabilities with Gyeongsangbuk-do's manufacturing base, based on close super-regional cooperation.
The Daegyeong region selected mobility, robotics, and system semiconductors as its three key technology fields by comprehensively considering common strategic industries, development directions, and the completeness of the industrial ecosystem. In addition, it conducted two rounds of demand surveys targeting local research institutions, universities, and companies to identify approximately 440 technology demands and incorporated them into business planning.
Kim Tae-woon, head of the AI Innovation and Growth Office, emphasized, "This project will serve as a crucial foundation that will determine the competitiveness of future industries in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region," adding, "Daegu Metropolitan City will do its utmost to build an advanced industrial ecosystem by organically cooperating with the provincial government and local industry, academia, and research institutions."
A total of 13.1 billion won (4.3 billion won for mobility, 3.7 billion won for robotics, 3.75 billion won for system semiconductors, etc.) will be invested in projects in the Daegyeong region as of 2026, and the scale of support is planned to be continuously expanded from 2027 onward.
Meanwhile, the '4-Pole 3-Special Science and Technology Innovation Support Project,' promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT to address low growth and regional decline and achieve balanced national development, is a regionally autonomous research and development (R&D) project in which the country, excluding the Seoul metropolitan area, is divided into four regions (Daegyeong, Central, Honam, and Southeast) and three special autonomous regions (Gangwon, Jeonbuk, and Jeju), with each region taking the lead in forming a project team and autonomously carrying out the identification of key technology fields and project planning.
This project consists of four detailed sub-projects aimed at securing source technologies and disseminating research results: △Future Promising Deep-Tech Technology Discovery △Deep-Tech Regional Diffusion △K-UBRC Establishment △Industry-Academia-Research Hub Establishment.
To ensure the smooth progress of the project, a single project team for the Daegyeong region was also newly established within the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST).
