NGeneBio Co., Ltd. announced on the 10th that it has launched a service that conducts blood-based genetic testing prior to prescribing GIP/GLP-1 dual agonist obesity treatments. This is the first genetic testing service related to GLP-1 obesity treatment in Korea.
The test analyzes variations in key genes such as GLP1R and GIPR. It provides information on genetic characteristics that may affect treatment response and adverse reactions, allowing medical professionals to use it as a reference when reviewing patient-specific treatment strategies.
NGeneBio Co., Ltd. is discussing the introduction of its service with hospitals and clinics, including Incheon Sejong Hospital, where GIP/GLP-1 dual agonist treatments are frequently prescribed. The plan is to expand the market by initially supplying the service as a non-reimbursable test.
As the market for GIP/GLP-1 dual agonist obesity treatments grows rapidly, there is increasing demand from the medical field not only for prescribing treatments but also for managing treatment efficacy and side effects for each patient. Targeting this demand, NGeneBio Co., Ltd. plans to expand its scope into the precision medicine business by combining genetic testing and treatment data.
This service is set to expand from pre-medication screening to include tests that monitor the patient's condition during treatment. The plan is to enhance test accuracy and identify additional relevant biomarkers by accumulating data on actual test results, prescribed medications, weight changes, treatment responses, and adverse reactions.
In particular, through joint research with Incheon Sejong Hospital, it will verify biomarkers related to treatment response and adverse reactions and also seek to discover additional biomarkers that reflect the characteristics of Koreans.
