University of Seoul, Kyung Hee University and HUFS Launch 'Troika Yeokdongjeon'

[Financial News] Three universities located side by side in Seoul's Dongdaemun District have come together again after three years to promote shared development between the local community and young people.
The University of Seoul (UOS) said on the 10th that it held the launch ceremony for the '2026 Sixth Troika Yeokdongjeon' with Kyung Hee University and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) at its Natural Sciences Building on the 9th, marking the start of two weeks of competition.
Troika Yeokdongjeon is the sports component of the 'Troika Inhyangje,' a festival of artistic, academic and athletic exchanges among the three universities. The event was suspended amid the COVID-19 pandemic and other disruptions, then resumed in 2023 after a three-year hiatus. It will be held through the 22nd at the universities' athletic fields and gymnasiums. About 250 student athletes will compete in good faith for their schools' honor across seven sports: soccer, basketball, baseball, tennis, badminton, table tennis and esports.
The event is also drawing attention as a model of shared development in which local governments and universities work together beyond campus boundaries. Dongdaemun District participates as an official sponsor each year. The launch ceremony held the previous day was attended by officials from all three universities, as well as key local figures including Choi Dong-min, mayor of Dongdaemun District, the district council chair and the head of the district sports council, underscoring their solidarity with the local community.
Won Yongkul, president of UOS, emphasized, "Yeokdongjeon is not merely an athletic competition to determine winners and losers. It is a festival of harmony where students from the three universities meet, communicate and grow together through sports." He added, "Going forward, local governments and the universities will continue to actively support student exchanges and expand cooperation among the universities and shared development with the local community."
Meanwhile, beginning with this athletic event, the three universities plan to continue a fall festival with local residents. They will sequentially present a policy proposal contest addressing regional issues and an academic exhibition, known as the Gamdongje, followed by a joint cheering event and club festival for the three universities, known as the Akdongje.
