[Financial News] BGF Retail is partnering with Korea Post to introduce Korea Post parcel delivery services at CU Convenience Stores nationwide. The companies will also expand their cooperation beyond convenience-store parcel services to include opening stores in unused Korea Post spaces and supporting delivery workers.
According to industry sources on the 10th, BGF Retail signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea Post at BGF Group headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 9th to strengthen convenience-store parcel services and partnership capabilities. The ceremony was attended by BGF Retail CEO Min Seung-bae, BGF Retail CX Division Head Lee Eun-gwan, BGF Networks CEO Yeon Jeong-uk, and Korea Post head Park In-hwan, among others.
Starting that day, Korea Post parcel delivery services became available at about 18,900 CU stores nationwide. BGF Retail has operated its “CU Visit Parcel Delivery” service through Korea Post since May and plans to add Korea Post international parcel services in the future.
The companies are also considering opening CU stores in unused spaces at Korea Post branches. There are about 3,300 Korea Post branches nationwide, and the two sides will examine the feasibility of operating convenience stores in locations with high accessibility.
Support for delivery workers and Korea Post employees will also be expanded. BGF Retail plans to extend the heat shelters for delivery workers, which have been operated at company-owned stores since July, to franchised stores next year. By the third quarter, Korea Post employees will be able to use their welfare points at CU, while discounts will be offered in the fourth quarter when employees verify their status on Pocket CU.
BGF Retail CEO Min Seung-bae said, "We expect CU and Korea Post, both spread throughout the country like capillaries, to create mutual synergies and offer a wide range of lifestyle-oriented services that make customers’ lives more convenient. CU will continue to develop as a lifestyle platform where customers can access more convenient and differentiated services anytime and anywhere."
