[Financial News] WEBTOON held its WEBTOON With events for creators in the Yeongnam, Chungcheong and Honam regions. The events were designed to provide emotional support and networking opportunities for creators living outside the Seoul metropolitan area, who have relatively fewer opportunities for offline interaction. They are part of an effort to strengthen the webtoon creation ecosystem.
According to industry sources on the 10th, WEBTOON planned and hosted the events in line with the goals of Naver Impact, which supports creators’ diversity and sustainable growth. The events were held in Busan in July for the Yeongnam region, Daejeon in August for the Chungcheong region, and Gwangju in September for the Honam region. More than 140 creators attended in total.
The events featured special guest lectures, recreational activities, dinners and networking sessions. At the July event, writer Jo Seung-yeon gave a humanities lecture titled “The Power of Storytelling.” At the August event, Kwon Mi-gyeong, CEO of Studio N, WEBTOON’s video production subsidiary, led a session on the scalability and adaptation of webtoon intellectual property into video content.
The Gwangju event on the 9th featured a talk concert with webtoon artist Cho Seok. Cho shared experiences from his 20 years of serializing webtoons and engaged with fellow creators.
Meanwhile, WEBTOON operates the WEBTOON With program to support a sustainable creative ecosystem. The program includes health checkups and support for family events for creators, as well as assistance with contests and global serialization, orientation programs for new creators, celebration parties for creators who have completed their series, and fan meetings. This year, WEBTOON will invest a total of 70 billion won to support the global creative ecosystem.
