TS, Incheon–Gimpo Expressway to Share Hazardous-Material Vehicle Accident Information and CCTV Footage in Real Time

[Financial News] The Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) will share the locations and accident information of hazardous-material transport vehicles traveling on the Incheon–Gimpo Expressway with the road operator in real time. The parties plan to link highway closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage with control-center information to quickly determine whether a hazardous-material leak has occurred and reduce the time needed for initial disaster response.
TS said on the 10th that it had signed an agreement with the Incheon–Gimpo Expressway on the 9th to prevent accidents involving hazardous-material transport vehicles and strengthen the response system.
Under the agreement, TS will provide real-time information on the operations and accidents of hazardous-material transport vehicles entering the Incheon–Gimpo Expressway. The Incheon–Gimpo Expressway will share CCTV information from the sections under its jurisdiction with TS. 
If a hazardous-material leak or traffic accident occurs, the two institutions plan to review control-center information and on-site footage together and use them for initial response, disaster-prevention, and rescue operations. They will focus on limiting the spread of damage in long and undersea tunnels, where it is difficult to assess an accident from outside.
Yong-Sik Jung, president of TS, said, "This agreement will serve as an important opportunity to strengthen our response to hazardous-material leaks and traffic accidents on privately operated expressways. We will continue to strengthen our cooperation with relevant institutions to protect the lives and property of the public."
