National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) and Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) Open Healthcare Big Data Analysis Center

The NHIS announced on the 10th that it has opened the 'NHIS-KDCA Cooperation Big Data Analysis Center' together with the KDCA.
The analysis center is a space that provides an analysis environment enabling researchers to safely analyze health insurance big data. It is located on the third floor of the National Medical Science Knowledge Center of the KDCA in Osong, North Chungcheong Province, and has a capacity of eight seats.
The NHIS and the KDCA have collaborated on infectious disease analysis and the utilization of healthcare big data during the COVID-19 response. With the opening of this analysis center, the two organizations plan to strengthen research cooperation and support healthcare researchers in utilizing data.
In particular, access to and convenience of using health insurance big data are expected to improve for research institutions such as the KDCA's National Institute of Health and the nearby Korea Health Industry Development Institute. Health insurance big data includes eligibility, insurance premiums, medical treatment history, health checkups, information on medical institutions, and birth and death data.
Researchers who wish to use the analysis center can do so after making a reservation on the Health Insurance Big Data Platform.
Kang Cheong-hee, Chairman of the NHIS, stated, "We have enhanced researchers' access to data by rapidly establishing a new analysis center," adding, "We will continue our efforts to revitalize research and analysis based on health insurance big data."
Meanwhile, as of June this year, the NHIS operates 305 seats across 14 big data analysis centers nationwide. In response to the increasing demand for data access, it plans to gradually expand the analysis centers by adding four locations annually from 2026 to 2030.
