This competition is evaluated as having served as a new bridgehead for defense diplomacy, not only sharing world-class advanced sniping techniques but also impressing multinational military partners with the technological prowess of the cutting-edge K-Defense Industry.■ 'Korean International Sniper Competition' Makes a Qualitative Leap, Standing Shoulder to Shoulder with the World's Most Prestigious CompetitionsAccording to the Army on the 10th, the 3rd International Sniper Competition Hosted by the Minister of MND (Korean International Sniper Competition, K-ISC), held from the 9th to the 10th at the Republic of Korea Army Special Warfare Command (ROK-SWC) in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province, and the Special Warfare School in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, successfully concluded its seven-day journey. A total of 127 elite marksmen from 47 teams, including foreign forces from seven countries such as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Uzbekistan, and Mongolia, as well as the South Korean Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Police, and Coast Guard, participated in the competition to compete for honor.
Sniper competitions organized by the United States and NATO, which have long been recognized as having the highest authority on the global security stage, have placed emphasis on verifying the organic coordination between pilots and observers, as well as judgment capabilities under extreme fatigue. The Republic of Korea Army’s K-ISC has also actively adopted these global standards, completely changing the qualitative paradigm of the competition.
This year's competition completely departed from the traditional simple precision shooting format. It fully introduced a 'Tactical Shooting' session that includes target search and identification using drones, neutralization of maneuvering AI robot targets during urban operations, and realistic engagements with opposing forces at night. Furthermore, it comprehensively verified the crisis response capabilities required of snipers by combining 'Shooting Under Stress,' which simulates battlefield noise and positions being abandoned, with a Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) evaluation that involves providing first aid and evacuating injured teammates.■ Proving the Legendary Status of Special Forces: A Venue for Cutting-Edge Defense Diplomacy Beyond a Mere CompetitionAs a result of systematic and rigorous evaluation, Team A of the Republic of Korea Army Special Warfare Command claimed the honorable victory in the 'Legend' category—the highest difficulty level where military special forces faced off against foreign troops—demonstrating the might of the world's most elite and irreplaceable special forces. Following this, the 9th Infantry Division Reconnaissance Battalion took first place in the Specialist category, and the 1st Marine Division took first place in the Warrior category. Lieutenant Bilgung of the Mongolian military, who participated in the competition, shared his thoughts, stating, "It was a meaningful stage where we could go beyond simple competition to learn various combat techniques and approaches from different countries and objectively assess our level."
The hidden driving force behind K-ISC's accelerating rise to global authority is that the Ministry of National Defense and the Army are linking it to a "platform for defense exports and military cooperation." During the competition, the Republic of Korea Army Special Warfare Command operated promotional booths for 18 domestic defense companies, showcasing advanced sniper equipment and AI-based dronebot combat systems. Military attachés from 23 countries and foreign military officers who visited the site to observe the event personally examined advanced domestic weapon systems, such as special operations radios and intelligent anti-drone systems, and showered them with praise.
An Army official stated, "We will continue to expand the hosting of the International Sniper Competition to solidify the military exchange network that integrates excellent tactics from around the world." Now in its third year, K-ISC is evolving into a security brand and is firmly establishing itself as another intangible asset supporting the credibility of the K-Defense Industry.
