On the 10th, Celltrion announced that it participated in the '2026 European Respiratory Society (ERS)' held in Barcelona, Spain from the 5th to the 9th, and shared the product competitiveness of OMLYCLO and plans to target the European market.
At this conference, Celltrion set up an independent booth to introduce OMLYCLO. While communicating the efficacy and safety equivalent to the original drug—the core of biosimilars—the company emphasized the convenience of use in actual medical settings.
OMLYCLO is an omalizumab biosimilar used for allergic asthma and chronic spontaneous urticaria. After launching sales in Europe late last year, it has now expanded its sales regions to 26 countries. In August, a 300 mg formulation was added.
In particular, it expanded the range of choices for patients and medical staff by offering various dosages, such as 75 mg, 150 mg, and 300 mg, as well as multiple administration devices like pre-filled syringes (PFS) and auto-injectors (AI). It also informed local medical staff about storage convenience, latex-free product lineup, and stable supply capabilities.
The therapeutic value of omalizumab was also highlighted through an academic program. At 'Expert Insights' held on the 6th, Professor Roland Bull of the Department of Pulmonology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, Germany, participated and introduced the clinical utility and long-term safety experiences of omalizumab in allergic asthma.
It was also discussed how biosimilars can improve patient access to treatment and reduce the burden of medical costs. Experience with omalizumab treatment accumulated across various patient groups, including children and pregnant patients, as well as the latest insights on the role of biosimilars in the field of respiratory diseases, were shared.
Celltrion plans to strengthen sales and marketing activities tailored to the specific market characteristics of each country in major European nations, taking advantage of this ERS. Moving beyond sales focused on bidding agencies, the company plans to expand contact points with medical institutions and medical professionals who influence actual prescriptions.
The goal is to expand the initial success already seen in some countries across Europe. In Spain, OMLYCLO's market share was estimated to have exceeded 90% as of July this year, and sales performance in Italy also surpassed initial business targets.
"At this ERS, we communicated the actual product value of OMLYCLO to medical professionals and confirmed our competitiveness in the European market," said a Celltrion official. "Based on our diverse dosages, devices, and stable supply capabilities, we will strengthen our country-specific academic and sales activities to continue expanding our market across Europe."
Meanwhile, Celltrion plans to participate in the 'Global Urticaria Forum 2026' to be held in Berlin, Germany, this coming December to expand OMLYCLO's presence in the field of chronic spontaneous urticaria.
