[Financial News] Edtech technology is being deployed in earnest to support children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and ‘slow learners (borderline intelligence),’ who are prone to falling into educational blind spots.
Daekyo EduCamp announced on the 10th that it has begun developing customized VR educational content for children and adolescents with developmental disabilities and slow learners in partnership with VRisVR, a startup specializing in virtual reality (VR).
The collaboration aims to improve learning engagement and social adaptability by applying immersive technology to education for slow learners, an area where conventional, flat, rote-learning materials have had limitations. Virtual reality environments allow learners to repeatedly practice cognitive and emotional development as well as daily-life skills in settings similar to real-life situations, without psychological pressure.
Slow learners are children and adolescents with IQ scores between 71 and 84, placing them on the borderline between intellectual disabilities and non-disability. Because they are not diagnosed with a disability, they can easily be excluded from legal and institutional support. Although they may struggle to keep up with the standard curriculum, timely access to appropriate, customized education can enable normal development and independence in daily life.
The two companies plan to introduce specialized programs by combining Daekyo EduCamp’s years of expertise in child psychology and cognitive education with VRisVR’s VR-content development technology. They also plan to expand distribution so the resulting content can be used not only at home but also in special schools, welfare centers, local educational institutions, and other settings.
A Daekyo EduCamp official said, "For slow learners and children with developmental disabilities, learning experiences in a repetitive and safe environment are more important than anything else." The official added, "Based on advanced VR technology, we will create a customized educational environment where everyone can have access to learning opportunities, without leaving any children behind."
