[Financial News] Han Byung-do, floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, on the 10th accused independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon of engaging in "illegal political maneuvering using the prosecution's files" after Han disclosed an internal indictment plan related to Kim Seung-won, the nominee for minister of justice. He added, "The National Office of Investigation must quickly investigate the case and uncover the full truth."
At a policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea that day, Han said, "Internal reports prepared during the prosecution's decision-making process must not be leaked outside under any circumstances." He continued, "Yet an indictment plan that could be viewed only by a very limited number of people, including the investigative team and the leadership of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office of the Republic of Korea, has been reduced to social media content."
He stressed, "Providing investigative materials constitutes an obvious crime, amounting to the disclosure of official secrets or a violation of the Personal Information Protection Act," adding, "Not only current public officials but also former public officials are subject to punishment." The remarks were widely interpreted as a warning to Han Dong-hoon, who effectively disclosed the indictment plan.
Han Byung-do added, "The Democratic Party of Korea will respond firmly to all political maneuvering and liberation acts to ensure that confirmation hearings for members of the State Council are conducted rigorously in accordance with the law and due process."
