Woo Jae-jun: "Revoke Han Dong-hoon's disciplinary action and appoint him to Kim Seung-won's confirmation hearing committee"

[Financial News] Members of the People Power Party Supreme Council clashed publicly over whether to bring in independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon for the confirmation hearing of Kim Seung-won, nominee for Minister of Justice. Supreme Council member Woo Jae-jun proposed revoking Han's disciplinary action, or at least suspending it during the hearing, so that he could serve on the confirmation hearing committee. Supreme Council member Cho Kwang-han, however, objected, saying, "That would not be appropriate."
Woo Jae-jun, who is classified as part of the pro-Han Dong-hoon faction, opened the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea on the 10th by saying, "Kim must be stopped by any means necessary."
Woo argued that Han Dong-hoon has been leading efforts over allegations of solicitation involving a new drug and stock-price manipulation involving Kim, and therefore should join the confirmation hearing committee. "The person leading efforts to bring this case into the public spotlight is Han," Woo stressed. "He is handling the case well in every respect, including the level of public attention it has received, his understanding of the case, and his relationship with the public-interest whistleblower. Realistically, he is the person best equipped to lead it. That is why he must take part in the confirmation hearing."
Woo said, "The Democratic Party of Korea says it will never allow Han to join the confirmation hearing and will not even let him serve as a witness. Under the National Assembly Act, it is impossible for an independent lawmaker to join the hearing. Even if we give up the seat allocated to our party, he cannot become a confirmation hearing committee member unless the Speaker of the National Assembly cooperates."
He continued, "That is why the only way for him to join the hearing is to regain his People Power Party membership and participate as a People Power Party lawmaker. Under the party rules, the Supreme Council can revoke or suspend disciplinary action through a resolution. I propose that the party leadership revoke Han's disciplinary action, or at least suspend it for the duration of the confirmation hearing, so that he can join the committee."
Cho Kwang-han, a member of the party leadership faction, pushed back, saying, "He was expelled from our party because he was suspected of criminal conduct. I don't think this would be appropriate."
He added, "An orchestra and a choir are beautiful because they perform together. That person really likes basking in the spotlight and having fun alone, so he might as well continue enjoying himself on his own outside."
