SK Chairman Chey Tae-won Inspects Ulsan AI Data Center... Strengthening On-site AI Activities

[Financial News] SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won visited the construction site of the Ulsan Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Center on the 10th. Visiting Ulsan ahead of the '2026 Ulsan Forum' to be held on the 11th, Chairman Chey visited manufacturing sites in Ulsan to inspect the implementation status of the Transition to AI (AX), in addition to visiting the 'SK AI Data Center Ulsan,' which brings together the group's full capabilities.
SK Group announced that Chairman Chey engaged in on-site management by visiting the SK AI Data Center in Ulsan and SK Innovation's Ulsan CLX in succession on this day.
CEOs of major affiliates were present at the site, including SK Innovation President Jang Yong-ho, SK Telecom President Jeong Jae-heon, SK Gas President Yoon Byung-suk, SK N-Move President Kim Won-ki, SK Energy and SK GeoCentric President Kim Jong-hwa, SK Broadband President Kim Sung-soo, and SK EcoPlant President Kim Young-sik.
Chairman Chey, who embarked on an AX field tour three months after declaring a "major management transformation centered on AX" at the "New Icheon Forum" last June, first visited the site of the "SK AI Data Center Ulsan," the largest AI-dedicated data center outside the capital region in Korea, to inspect the construction status.
This is a site where major SK Group affiliates have participated extensively to fully consolidate the group's capabilities, and it is the first project site for the AI ​​infrastructure that SK Group is pursuing nationwide on a scale of 15 GW (gigawatts).
As it is an AI-dedicated data center being built with AWS (Amazon Web Services) with a scale of approximately 7 trillion won and targeted for operation by the end of 2027, SK Group plans to expand the 'SK AI Data Center Ulsan' to establish an AI data center cluster throughout the Yeongnam region.
Chairman Chey then visited SK Innovation's Ulsan CLX. Ulsan CLX is a key site of SK Innovation's Manufacturing AX, where AI is integrated into oil refining and chemical processes to simultaneously pursue process optimization, safety management, and energy efficiency.
With AI constantly detecting and analyzing all processes and facilities of Ulsan CLX, which spans 2.5 million square meters, 24 hours a day, a system is being established to respond quickly based on human judgment, and it appears that the relevant AI model will be applied to other manufacturing sites in the future.
SK Group, which has established a group strategy to become an 'AI full-stack provider' starting with semiconductors, possessing infrastructure encompassing AI data centers, energy, and services, and connecting it to Manufacturing AX that applies this to actual industrial sites, plans to continue building up related infrastructure.
Regarding Chairman Chey’s visit to Ulsan, an official from SK Group emphasized, "It is an opportunity to personally inspect on-site how SK Group’s commitment to accelerating AX is being implemented across the entire AI full stack," adding, "We will lead our position as an 'AI full stack provider' by thoroughly examining every area, from semiconductors and AI infrastructure to AX in manufacturing sites."
