Busan Promotes Its Appeal as a Design City Through World Design Capital Pavilion in Taiwan

[Financial News] Busan Metropolitan City Government and Design Council Busan announced on the 10th that they will operate the World Design Capital (WDC) 2028 Busan Pavilion at the Taiwan Design Museum gallery in Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei from the 8th through November 8.
The pavilion was created to promote Busan’s distinctive urban appeal through diverse content that combines design rooted in citizens’ daily lives with the city’s culture, tourism, and industries. It also highlights the vision and key policies of WDC Busan 2028.
The city plans to leverage Taiwanese tourists’ strong interest in promoting WDC Busan, highlight Busan’s maritime and tourism appeal, and actively encourage repeat visits.
Under the exhibition concept “BUSAN VIBE: WAVE,” the pavilion uses waves from the Busan sea as a motif to express the theme of WDC Busan 2028: “A city that embraces everyone, with design created together.”
The exhibition introduces Busan’s city brand and appeal through Boogi, the city’s representative character, who has become familiar to local fans following a recent fan meeting in Taiwan.
It also presents a WDC promotional video, previous host cities, the WDC selection process, Busan’s citizen-participatory design policies, and examples of collaboration with local companies.
Earlier, on the 7th, the city held a press briefing at Not Just Library in Taipei, inviting about 50 local media representatives and design officials at an event hosted by the Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI). Participants shared the vision and key policies of WDC Busan 2028 and the pavilion’s content, while discussing ways to expand design exchanges between the two cities.
Through the operation of the Busan Pavilion, the city also plans to pursue international promotion by leveraging its cooperation network with the Taiwan Design Research Institute.
Mayor Chun Jae-soo said, “Using this exhibition as an opportunity, we will expand exchanges and cooperation with design cities around the world, including those in Taiwan, and successfully prepare for WDC Busan 2028 by widely promoting Busan’s design capabilities and urban vision.”
