Hyundai Mobis "Beyond Mobility to 'Robotics'"... Showcasing 60 Future Technologies

[Financial News] Hyundai Mobis unveiled over 60 core next-generation mobility technologies that extend beyond electrification and Software-Driven Vehicles (SDVs) to encompass the realm of robotics. Through a biennial R&D achievement sharing event, the company prominently featured 10 strategic items, including hybrid battery systems and safety devices specialized for PBVs, targeting the diversified demands of global automakers. The strategy is to expand its scope beyond a simple automotive parts manufacturer into a future robotics solutions company, while simultaneously securing substantial global orders from overseas buyers visiting the site.
Hyundai Mobis announced on the 10th that it will hold the '2026 R&D Tech Day' at its R&D Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, until the 18th, inviting representatives from key customers and partners. The theme for this year's event, marking its third year, has been set as 'Expansion from Mobility Components to Future Robotics.'
Hyundai Mobis has organized six key component exhibition zones and clearly demonstrated its intention to enter the robot hardware market by unveiling two new robotic actuators currently under development for the first time. In particular, a large number of officials from major overseas automakers in North America and Asia are scheduled to visit Korea during the event to tour the R&D center lines and discuss plans for securing orders and technology partnerships.
At this event, Hyundai Mobis highlighted 10 "Hero" products that will spearhead its global market offensive.
The 'next-generation hybrid battery system,' a key component of the electrification sector, is characterized by maximized flexibility to accommodate pouch, prismatic, and cylindrical battery cells. It is also designed to allow for the selective application of water- or air-cooling cooling methods, and features a venting valve to release gas in the event of abnormally high temperatures inside the cell, thereby reducing the risk of fire.
In the automotive sector, the 'Autonomous Driving & Advanced Parking Integrated Controller' was exhibited, which integrates driving control (long range) and parking control (short range) sensors to simultaneously ensure system optimization and pedestrian safety.
Numerous safety technologies targeting the autonomous driving and Purpose-Built Vehicle (PBV) markets were also included. A representative example is the "reverse passenger protection airbag," which prevents injury to first-row occupants in the event of a rear-end impact in an interior layout where first and second-row passengers face each other. In addition, key order items presented included a narrow turning radius suspension system that enables U-turns within the width of two lanes, a four-wheel independent steering system that enhances high-speed driving stability, special fire-resistant materials that block battery fire spread, and a new manufacturing method that improves electric vehicle motor output.
In the User Experience (UX) zone, a space was set up to experience infotainment technologies in the mass production stage, including the CES Innovation Award-winning holographic windshield display, a virtual reality head-up display (VR HUD), and a premium sound system.
In addition to sales activities through the exhibition of new technologies, Hyundai Mobis plans to hold Family Days on weekends, inviting employees' families to the research center to produce the 'Mobis Tech Dictionary' and run 'Junior Engineering Classrooms'.
