[Financial News] Samsung Electronics Service is expanding eco-friendly services, including digital payments, electronic receipts and component-level smartphone repairs.
Samsung Electronics Service announced on the 10th that it will pilot cashless service centers at 16 locations nationwide starting on the 17th.
The pilot locations include Yeouido, Dogok-dong and Hangdong Knowledge Industry Center in Seoul; three locations in Gyeonggi Province and Incheon; one in Daejeon; two in South Chungcheong Province; one in Gwangju; one in South Jeolla Province; two in Daegu; one in Gyeongsangbuk-do; and two in Ulsan.
The centers will encourage digital payments via credit and debit cards, app-based cards, Samsung Pay and bank transfers. Cash accounted for less than 5% of payments for consumables and services at Samsung Electronics service centers this year, and the share has been declining annually.
Samsung Electronics Service expects the introduction of cashless service centers to simplify payment reconciliation and reduce customer waiting times. After the pilot program, the company plans to expand the initiative nationwide while incorporating customer feedback.
The company is also increasing the issuance of electronic receipts. Samsung Electronics Service signed a business agreement with the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Carbon Neutral Points program and issues electronic receipts to customers' mobile phone numbers registered when they request a service.
Electronic receipts accounted for more than 70% of all receipts issued over the past two years. They can also be viewed on the Samsung Electronics Service website for three months starting the day after an inspection. Customers enrolled in Carbon Neutral Points Green Living Practice can receive incentives of up to 70,000 won per year.
According to the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, issuing electronic receipts can protect 120,000 trees and reduce carbon emissions by 22,000 tons annually. The digital transformation of service center operations, including payments and receipt issuance, is therefore contributing not only to customer convenience but also to resource conservation.
Samsung Electronics Service also offers component-level smartphone display repairs that replace only defective parts. Rather than replacing the entire display, technicians precisely repair only the components that need attention, reducing customers' financial burden while cutting waste and promoting resource circulation.
