[Financial News] Kia Corporation will make the world premiere of the large purpose-built vehicle (PBV) PV7 after establishing its midsize electric van PV5 in the European market. As internal-combustion commercial vehicles decline, the company plans to extend its proven PBV competitiveness into the large-vehicle segment and solidify its leadership in the rapidly growing European electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV) market.
Kia Corporation announced on the 10th that it will operate a 1,531-square-meter exhibition booth at IAA TRANSPORTATION 2026, the world’s largest commercial vehicle show, which opens on the 14th in Hanover, Germany, local time. The company will showcase three PV7 models and seven PV5 models. Following its debut at the event in 2024, Kia Corporation is participating for the second consecutive time. This year, it will unveil the PV7 in person for the first time and present its vision for the future of PBVs, including customized business solutions.
Kia Corporation’s decision to put a large electrified model at the forefront in Europe reflects the region’s clear shift toward electrification in the commercial vehicle market. According to market research firm Dataforce, Europe’s overall light commercial vehicle (LCV) market totaled 1,206,458 units in the first half of this year, down 8.7% from the same period a year earlier. In contrast, registrations of electric light commercial vehicles (eLCVs) rose 10.2% to 125,069 units. The midsize electric van (eMVAN) market, where the PV7 will compete, also grew 9.2% year on year to 57,804 units in the first half, far outpacing the 2.3% growth of the overall midsize van market.
The successful launch of the midsize PV5 also drove the early expansion of Kia Corporation’s lineup. Launched in Europe late last year, the PV5 sold 13,603 units in the first half of this year and took the top spot in the C-segment electric van market with a 30.4% share. A key factor was the timely supply of various derivatives, including passenger, cargo, and chassis-cab models, through E-GMP.S, a PBV-specific adaptation of E-GMP. The PV5 has also demonstrated its product competitiveness by becoming the first Korean-brand vehicle—and by a unanimous decision of the judging panel—to be named the 2026 International Van of the Year (IVOTY).
Kia Corporation plans to carry the platform flexibility proven by the PV5 into the large PV7, complete a commercial lineup covering both work and mobility needs, and begin its full-scale local launch next year.
Meanwhile, supported by its passenger electrification lineup ranging from Kia EV2 to Kia EV9, along with the PV5, Kia Corporation sold 290,697 vehicles in Europe in the first half of this year, up 6.9% from the same period a year earlier, for a 4.0% market share.
