Regarding Han Dong-hoon's successive releases of materials after raising allegations of lobbying at the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety involving Kim Seung-won, the nominee for Minister of Justice, Kim Min-seok said, "Aren't they all internal prosecution documents?" He added, "I thought that someone who openly does things contrary to the Constitution and the law should not be in the National Assembly."
Regarding Lee Jin-sook, Kim cited her decision last month to push ahead with a forum on the May 18 Democratization Movement at the National Assembly alongside a far-right civic group. He said, "I am pursuing her expulsion, or at the very least, suspension of her National Assembly membership."
Kim also discussed amending the National Assembly Act to allow a lawmaker's membership to be suspended for up to one year if expulsion does not take place. He explained, "Under our National Assembly Act, expulsion is handled through the Ethics Committee. I introduced a bill that would allow the plenary session to suspend a member's qualifications for up to one year by a majority of members present if an agreement cannot be reached between the ruling and opposition parties at the committee level." He continued, "I wrote that while thinking that, if the bill passes, at least people like Lee Jin-sook and Han Dong-hoon—who in effect have no qualifications to serve as National Assembly members—could be prevented from carrying out their activities and functions."
The previous day, Kim had already raised questions about how Han Dong-hoon obtained the materials concerning Kim Seung-won and warned of a strong response. Regarding Han's successive allegations, Kim said, "I believe this is an incident that could not have occurred without a collaborator inside the prosecution." He also stated that the circumstances surrounding the leak of the materials should be traced and that legal action should be taken.
