[Financial News] A netizen who distributed fabricated videos about IVE member Jang Won-young has been sentenced to an actual prison term.
According to Yonhap News and other outlets on the 9th, Starship Entertainment said that day, "The defendant indicted on charges including distributing fabricated videos targeting our artist, Jang Won-young, was recently sentenced by a court to an actual custodial prison term."
The agency has continuously requested investigations after monitoring the dissemination of false information, defamation, insults, sexual harassment, malicious slander, and the production and distribution of fabricated videos online, including on social media. Starship Entertainment previously secured legal punishment against the YouTuber Sojang, so the latest prison sentence is viewed as an extension of the agency's hard-line response.
The agency stressed, "We responded firmly throughout the investigation and trial in this case," adding, "We will continue to pursue legal accountability to the fullest extent, in accordance with our zero-tolerance policy, for serious violations of the rights and interests of our artists."
It added, "We will continue monitoring not only the original creators of malicious posts and content, but also the accounts and channels that repeatedly post and distribute them, and will take necessary civil and criminal legal action." The agency further stated, "Even when anonymous or pseudonymous accounts, or overseas platforms, are used, we will pursue the necessary legal procedures regardless of whether the platforms are domestic or international."
Meanwhile, the agency filed additional complaints that day against so-called "cyber wrecker" channels that repeatedly posted malicious content targeting Jang Won-young, as well as the authors of malicious posts. The latest legal action covers conduct such as distorting and editing recorded videos to disparage her character and attitude, and redistributing false allegations.
