[Financial News] Police in Incheon left a driver in his 20s at the scene without taking adequate safety measures after catching him driving under the influence. The driver subsequently drove home again, it was revealed.
According to the Incheon Jungbu Police Station on the 9th, at around 10:35 p.m. on the 2nd, a vehicle driven by Driver A, who is in his 20s, rear-ended a vehicle waiting at a traffic signal at Seohae Intersection in Jemulpo-gu.
Police dispatched after receiving a report confirmed that Driver A had been driving under the influence while handling the accident and conducted a breathalyzer test. His blood alcohol concentration was found to be at a level warranting license revocation.
When a driver is caught driving under the influence, police are required to take safety measures to prevent the person from driving again, such as arranging a designated driver, a family member, or another qualified third party to drive the vehicle.
However, police were found to have left the scene after completing a preliminary investigation of Driver A without taking any further action.
As a result, Driver A drove his own vehicle home again.
An insurance company employee who was at the scene to handle the accident reportedly witnessed Driver A driving again and reported it to police.
Police booked Driver A on suspicion of causing injury through dangerous driving under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
An official from the Incheon Jungbu Police Station said, "We confirmed that the initial measures taken after the drunk-driving offense were inadequate and have completed internal staff training."
