Taking a Closer Look at OECD Regional Development Policies... MOLIT to Host Seminar

[Financial News] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) will organize a forum to share developments in the OECD’s regional development policy discussions with stakeholders in South Korea.
MOLIT and the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements will host the first OECD Regional Development Policy Seminar on the 10th. Government ministries and state-funded research institutes, along with experts in OECD regional policy, will attend.
The seminar was organized to share global regional development policy trends discussed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and to effectively link them with domestic regional policies. As balanced regional development has emerged as a major social issue, there is a growing need to systematically incorporate international policy trends into domestic policymaking.
Presentations will cover Korea’s current land policy and plans, the achievements and policy implications of cooperation with the OECD on regional policy, and global regional policy trends.
The presentations will examine key discussions and policy implications of the OECD Regional Development Policy Committee (RDPC), while also exploring the possibility of elevating successful domestic policy cases onto the international agenda. The RDPC is a forum where member countries discuss ways to strengthen regional competitiveness, including regional recovery policies, regional innovation, carbon neutrality, demographic change, and the digital transition.
A panel discussion will then address the direction of policy cooperation with the OECD and offer policy recommendations for domestic regional policy. It will also consider ways to share Korea’s regional policy experience with the international community and connect it with future OECD discussions on regional development policy.
A MOLIT official said, "This is an opportunity to take an in-depth look at developments in OECD discussions at a time when balanced regional development has become a major issue in our society." The official added, "Using this seminar as an opportunity, we will continue sharing the OECD’s key discussions on regional development policy domestically and strengthen cooperation to link international policy trends with domestic regional policies."
