Haitai Confectionery & Foods Launches Washiaolong, a Wasabi-Filled Dim Sum

[Financial News] Haitai Confectionery & Foods announced on the 9th that it will launch Washiaolong, a dim sum product made with wasabi. It is the first time a wasabi dumpling has been introduced in South Korea’s frozen dumpling market.
Xiaolong, which first gained popularity in 2006 as a convenient version of Xiaolongbao, is the follow-up product released four years after the 2022 cheese-rib flavor. The new product retains the original’s moist texture and round, steamed-bun-like shape while adding wasabi’s light green color and sharp, pungent flavor.
The ingredients were also differentiated to deliver wasabi’s distinct flavor. Made with hon-wasabi (Japanese horseradish) powder, the product offers the clean, fragrant pungency of real wasabi rather than an aggressively spicy taste.
Five types of fresh vegetables—including cabbage, green onions, onions, garlic and ginger—along with domestically sourced pork add a rich savory flavor that deepens with every bite. Sales will begin at CU Convenience Store (CU) this month before expanding to convenience stores nationwide.
A Haitai Confectionery & Foods official said, "By applying wasabi to Xiaolongbao, which has become a popular dumpling, we have expanded the range of flavors in South Korea’s dim sum market through this novel approach. We hope consumers can easily and conveniently relieve the stress of their busy daily lives with Washiaolong’s sharp, savory flavor."
