Gwangju Metropolitan City: "98 Companies Intend to Move into Muan National Industrial Complex Candidate Site, Attracting Investment for 50% of Industrial Facility Land"

【Financial News, South Jeolla-Gwangju = Hwang Tae-jong】Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City (Gwangju Metropolitan City) said that, as of the 9th, 98 companies that signed investment agreements indicating their intention to move into the Muan National Industrial Complex candidate site had committed to investments covering 320,000 pyeong, or 50% of the industrial facility land.
The city emphasized that this achievement resulted from developing companies’ occupancy intentions identified during the master planning stage into concrete investment plans. It said the result demonstrates that the Muan National Industrial Complex has sufficient actual corporate demand and project feasibility.
The companies that signed agreements include 35 renewable energy companies, seven K-food companies, and 56 companies in areas including artificial intelligence (AI)-based agriculture.
Gwangju Metropolitan Mayor Min Hyung-bae emphasized, "Securing investment agreements with 98 companies for an area of 320,000 pyeong and attracting companies to 50% of the planned industrial facility land demonstrates the sufficient corporate demand and project feasibility of the Muan National Industrial Complex."
In August, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport selected approximately 3.47 million square meters (1.05 million pyeong) in the Hyeongyeong-myeon area of Muan as a candidate site for the Muan National Industrial Complex. To secure the candidate-site designation, Gwangju Metropolitan City proactively conducted a master plan and feasibility study and systematically prepared plans covering corporate demand, development direction, infrastructure supply, and corporate support measures.
Gwangju Metropolitan City plans to use the area’s abundant renewable energy resources and favorable location, including Muan International Airport, the Honam High-Speed Railway, and the Muan–Gwangju Expressway, to enhance the completeness of the Honam region’s semiconductor industry ecosystem in connection with the Gwangju Semiconductor National Industrial Complex.
In particular, it plans to strategically attract companies in semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment, logistics warehousing, renewable energy, K-food convergence industries, and advanced AI industries.
The city also plans to work with Muan County to continue managing each company’s investment plan so that the agreements lead to actual investments, while strengthening investment-attraction efforts to bring in anchor companies.
Mayor Min Hyung-bae said, "I will actively urge the authorities to ensure that the designation and approval of the National Industrial Complex proceed swiftly, based on clear corporate demand and economic feasibility."
