[Financial News] Global private-equity firm EQT has launched EQT Nexus Asia, an evergreen (open-ended) strategy targeting the Asia-Pacific market. The initiative is designed to give eligible individual and institutional investors ongoing access to Asia-Pacific buyout (acquisition of controlling interests) exposure that had been confined to semiannual closed-end funds.
According to investment banking industry sources on the 9th, EQT Nexus Asia will allocate capital across EQT Private Capital’s large-cap and mid-market strategies, investing in healthcare, services, technology, and industrial technology companies in India, South Korea, Japan, Greater China, Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Through a single vehicle, investors will gain a diversified portfolio spanning sectors, strategies, and regions.
The evergreen vehicle launched this time has no maturity date or capital calls. Instead, it provides regular redemption windows. EQT has expanded its lineup into infrastructure and real estate since launching Nexus in 2021. This product is its fifth pillar and the first focused on a specific region.
The backdrop is an imbalance between supply and demand. Asia-Pacific is a $35 trillion economic region that is home to approximately 60% of the world’s population and grows by more than 4% annually. It also accounts for 60% of global growth. By contrast, less than 5% of global private-equity capital is allocated to the region. By 2035, 3.2 billion of the world’s 5 billion middle-class consumers are expected to be concentrated there. A growth structure increasingly driven by domestic demand, low correlation with Western economic cycles, and the revival of initial public offering (IPO) markets are also viewed as favorable factors.
EQT has deployed approximately $50 billion in Asia since 1997. Its current Asia portfolio companies employ more than 270,000 people. The platform is supported by nine local offices and more than 150 dedicated investment professionals. The network secured through its acquisition of Baring Private Equity Asia in 2022 is a key asset. In South Korea, EQT has also strengthened its presence through SK Shieldus and Genuone Sciences.
Sueann Yeo, head of EQT’s Asia-Pacific Global Wealth Solutions, said, "It was designed to broaden access to investments in Asia’s evolving private markets. This is possible because of our long-established local presence and proven ability to help companies grow."
Hari Gopalakrishnan, co-head of EQT’s Asia private-equity business, emphasized, "With its large domestic economies and favorable demographics, Asia is the world’s most attractive long-term investment destination. We are combining the know-how of veterans who have navigated multiple cycles with global sector expertise and the ability to engage actively in management."
Nicholas Maxey, co-head and head of Asia Mid-Market Opportunities (MMO), stated, "Mid-market companies are at an inflection point as they scale up and enter new markets. With the same governance and value-creation capabilities, we will work closely with founders and management teams to support their next stage."
