Jeonnam–Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education to Require Newly Appointed Kindergarten, Elementary and Special-School Teachers to Work in Former Jurisdictions for Eight Years

【Financial News South Jeolla–Gwangju = Reporter Hwang Tae-jong】 The Jeonnam–Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education has decided that teachers recruited next year for kindergartens, elementary schools and special schools will work for eight years after their initial appointment in their former jurisdictions—South Jeolla Province or Gwangju.
 The measure is intended to stabilize the supply and demand of teachers following the integration of South Jeolla Province and Gwangju and to prevent confusion in the education field. Integrated personnel transfers between South Jeolla Province and Gwangju will be carried out after the eight-year period has elapsed.
 According to the Jeonnam–Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education on the 9th, a total of 257 teachers will be recruited through the “2027 School Year Competitive Examination for Selecting Candidates for Appointment as Teachers in Public and Private Kindergartens, Elementary Schools and Special Schools (Kindergarten and Elementary).” The positions comprise 56 kindergarten teachers—50 in South Jeolla Province and six in Gwangju; 169 elementary-school teachers—166 in South Jeolla Province, including four private-school positions, and three in Gwangju; five special-school kindergarten teachers—four in South Jeolla Province and one in Gwangju; and 27 special-school elementary teachers—17 in South Jeolla Province and 10 in Gwangju. Of the total, 20 positions—18 in South Jeolla Province and two in Gwangju—will be filled through separate recruitment for applicants with disabilities.
 In particular, final successful candidates for the 2027 school year will work for eight years from the date of their initial appointment in their former jurisdictions—South Jeolla Province or Gwangju. Integrated personnel transfers between South Jeolla Province and Gwangju will then be carried out after that period.
 Applicants must hold a teaching certificate for the relevant recruitment category, including those scheduled to obtain one by the end of February 2027. Applications will be accepted for five days, from the 28th through October 2, via the Jeonnam–Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education Online Teaching Staff Recruitment System.
 The first-stage examination will be held on November 7, while the second-stage examination will take place over three days, from January 6 to 8, 2027. First-stage examination results are scheduled to be announced on December 9, with final results to be released on January 27, 2027.
