[Financial News] HANMI Semiconductor Chairman Kwak Dong-shin, a leading stock in the semiconductor equipment sector, has signaled confidence in the company's future performance by repeatedly buying its own shares.
According to industry sources on the 9th, Chairman Kwak has decided to acquire approximately KRW 700 million worth of additional company shares. This brings the value of HANMI Semiconductor shares he has purchased since 2023 to approximately KRW 70.2 billion.
Chairman Kwak is scheduled to purchase the shares on the open market on October 7. Once the latest acquisition is completed, his stake in HANMI Semiconductor will rise to 33.73%. He has purchased a cumulative KRW 16.7 billion worth of company shares this year alone.
Chairman Kwak's repeated share purchases reflect his confidence in the company's future performance, based on HANMI Semiconductor's technological capabilities, including its Thermo-Compression Bonder (TC bonder) equipment. In the second quarter, HANMI Semiconductor posted quarterly revenue of KRW 251.1 billion, a record high. Its operating margin reached 52%.
In particular, HANMI Semiconductor continues to hold the world's top position in the TC bonder market. TC bonders use controlled heat and pressure to precisely attach DRAM chips to one another vertically. The equipment is used in the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) manufacturing process, which is essential for artificial intelligence (AI) data centers.
HANMI Semiconductor also maintains a leading global position in Micro Saw & Vision Placement equipment, in addition to TC bonders. The equipment uses a diamond wheel to precisely separate individual chips from a semiconductor wafer and then inspect them for defects.
Moreover, as the aerospace industry gains attention, HANMI Semiconductor is generating steady revenue from its electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding equipment business. The equipment applies shielding materials that block electromagnetic waves in spacecraft, aircraft, and other vehicles. HANMI Semiconductor plans to establish HANMI USA in San Jose, California, within the year and expand directly into the North American market.
A HANMI Semiconductor official said, "Chairman Kwak's additional purchase of company shares reflects both his confidence in the company's growth as it expands semiconductor equipment supplies alongside its entry into the U.S. market and his commitment to responsible management. We will further strengthen our position in the AI semiconductor and advanced packaging markets."
Meanwhile, Chairman Kwak donated five pieces of his artwork, “Endless Love,” to HANMI Semiconductor. In addition to his management activities, he continues to work as an artist under the name “Kwak Shin.”
