GS Caltex to Supply DHL Express with Sustainable Aviation Fuel—2,000 Metric Tons Over One Year

[Financial News] GS Caltex will supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to international express delivery company DHL Express. The company will provide SAF for aircraft refueled by DHL Express in South Korea over the next year. The supply volume is 2,000 metric tons on a “Neat SAF (100% SAF)” basis.
GS Caltex announced on the 9th that it had signed an agreement with DHL Express to establish a partnership for carbon reduction based on SAF. The SAF supplied by GS Caltex is produced through co-processing and has received ISCC EU certification, meeting the European Union’s renewable energy directive.
The signing ceremony, held the previous day at GS Tower in Seoul’s Gangnam District, was attended by key officials from both companies, including Chang-soo Kim, vice president of GS Caltex’s Mobility & Marketing Division, and John Pearson, CEO of DHL Express.
GS Caltex will also participate in DHL Express’s GoGreen Plus program. GoGreen Plus is a service that helps DHL Express reduce carbon emissions generated during transportation through the use of SAF. Going forward, the program will apply to all items GS Caltex sends overseas through DHL Express, allowing the company to receive recognition for the resulting carbon reductions.
GS Caltex plans to continue expanding SAF production and supplies to airlines in line with market demand. To ensure a stable increase in SAF supplies, the company will build a dedicated co-processing production line. For commercial-scale SAF production, GS Caltex plans to install dedicated pipelines connecting tanks for bio-based feedstocks with its refining processes, complete the dedicated co-processing line by the end of the year, and expand SAF production.
A GS Caltex official stated, “We will continue expanding our biofuel business, including SAF, in line with market demand.”
Meanwhile, GS Caltex began SAF refueling and demonstration flights with Korean Air in September 2023 after receiving SAF from Neste, a Finnish biofuel producer. It has completed six demonstration flights in total.
