[Financial News] As air traffic at Incheon International Airport surges, Jin Air and Air Busan have demonstrated top-level operational efficiency through meticulous flight schedule management that minimizes delays. Incheon International Airport Corporation is accelerating efforts to advance airport infrastructure operations by selecting outstanding airlines based on stringent punctuality and safety indicators for the first half of the year.
Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 9th that it held the “Outstanding AIRSIDE Airline Awards Ceremony” at Incheon Airport Aviation Academy on the 3rd to recognize airlines that contributed to improving operational efficiency at Incheon Airport during the first half of this year. AIRSIDE refers to the area where aircraft move, and the corporation has selected outstanding airlines each year through rigorous, data-driven evaluations to improve operational efficiency and safety.
This year’s awards were based on operational data from approximately 210,000 flights operated by 64 airlines that flew at least one departure per day on average during the first half of the year. The key evaluation criteria included compliance with the Target Off-Block Time (TOBT)—the time an airline aims to depart from its parking stand—worth 60 points; departure punctuality, worth 30 points; runway occupancy time, worth 7 points; and operating scale, worth 3 points.
In particular, the corporation divided TOBT compliance into measurements taken 40 and 30 minutes before departure to examine flight management more precisely. It also strictly assessed safety management capabilities by deducting points when ground safety accidents occurred.
The top honor in each of the three groups, divided by average daily departures, went to major domestic and international airlines. Jin Air received the highest evaluation in Group A, which operates 10 or more flights per day on average. Air Busan and United Airlines ranked first in Group B, with 3 to fewer than 10 daily flights, and Group C, with 1 to fewer than 3, respectively. Malaysia Airlines also received the Best Improver award, given to the airline whose evaluation score improved the most compared with the second half of last year.
Yong-Soo Cho, an executive director at Incheon International Airport Corporation, explained, “The airlines’ active cooperation in ensuring efficient airport operations made it possible to maintain the highest level of service even as the number of operating flights has recently increased.” He added, “We will continue to build a close cooperation system with airlines to maximize airport operational efficiency and provide passengers with more reliable services.”
