[Financial News] Daekyeung University said its founder, Yoo Jin-sun, who is also chair of the board of Jungam Academy, the university’s school foundation, was appointed as a new director of World Taekwondo (WT) at the 2026 World Taekwondo Board of Directors meeting held on the 8th in the organization’s main conference room. World Taekwondo is chaired by Choue Chung-won.
The four-year term runs through September 7, 2030.
The appointment carries particular significance, as the World Taekwondo Board of Directors consists of only seven members from around the world.
World Taekwondo (WT) is an international sports federation that oversees taekwondo at the Olympic and Paralympic Games through approximately 200 member national associations worldwide.
It leads the globalization of taekwondo by setting international competition rules and major policies, as well as organizing the World Taekwondo Championships and other international events.
The board, which includes taekwondo officials representing countries around the world, is a key decision-making body that discusses and determines major global taekwondo policies, international competitions, and long-term development strategies.
As a director, Yoo Jin-sun will take part in a broad range of activities, including shaping major World Taekwondo policies, expanding international exchanges, advancing taekwondo education, and developing global talent.
Daekyeung University also expects the appointment to connect its specialized taekwondo education with the global taekwondo network and provide momentum for expanding the development of globally oriented professionals.
Since establishing the Department of Taekwondo, Yoo Jin-sun has maintained a strong interest in education and international exchanges aimed at globalizing taekwondo as cultural content representing South Korea, beyond its role as a competitive sport.
Yoo Jin-sun said, "Taekwondo is a sport representing South Korea and a valuable cultural asset shared by people around the world." Yoo added, "As a director of World Taekwondo, I will do my part to promote taekwondo’s sustainable development and globalization and to foster globally minded taekwondo professionals for future generations."
