Korea Transportation Safety Authority to Train Professional Pilots for Future Urban Air Mobility... 50 Participants

[Financial News] Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) will train professional pilots in preparation for the commercialization of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), a future mode of transportation.
According to TS on the 9th, it will conduct the “First Basic Competency Training for Pilots to Prepare for UAM Commercialization in 2028 and Train Specialized UAM Pilots in Korea” over two days, from the 14th to the 15th.
As the first step in training UAM pilots, the program will be offered to 50 aviation and helicopter commercial pilots and other professionals who will be responsible for operating UAM aircraft in the future.
TS established a standard UAM pilot training curriculum by applying the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standard curriculum development procedures. This training will initially focus on areas where instruction is currently available. To help participants understand the characteristics of UAM, the curriculum covers key areas, including UAM pilot qualifications, relevant laws and regulations, and operating standards.
The training will consist of lectures by domestic and international experts. In particular, a test pilot from Archer Aviation, a U.S. UAM aircraft manufacturer, will participate directly as an expert and share operational experience, including how to respond to abnormal situations.
TS plans to establish a personnel-selection plan for pilot and maintenance positions to support enrollment in specialized training programs offered by overseas UAM aircraft manufacturers and the acquisition of relevant qualifications. The plan is to publicly recruit UAM pilots as early as the first half of next year.
Yong-Sik Jung, president of TS, said, "This basic competency training for UAM pilots is the first step toward establishing a foundation for training specialized UAM personnel in Korea, in connection with the project to train the country’s first UAM pilots and maintenance technicians. We will continue to establish systematic pilot qualification and training systems for safe UAM operations, train the key professionals who will lead UAM commercialization, and contribute to creating a safe air-traffic environment."
