[Financial News] OpenAI’s new artificial intelligence (AI) model, GPT-6 Astra, has passed a “human verification” test. It was as if the AI had declared, “I’m no longer a robot,” demonstrating that AI’s rapid evolution is accelerating and making the boundary between robots and humans even less distinct.\u00a0\u00a0
Astra passed all the CAPTCHA games used to prove that a user is human online on the 8th (local time).\u00a0
OpenAI developer Sharif Shamim said on X, formerly Twitter, that Astra had been tested on the CAPTCHA game “I’m Not a Robot” and solved all 48 stages, thereby earning a “human certificate.”
“I’m Not a Robot” consists of games such as identifying distorted letters, distinguishing cookies from dogs in similar-looking images, and locating specific objects, such as traffic lights, in photographs.
These games are widely used online to filter out crawling bots and other automated programs that scrape websites. Some are difficult enough that even real humans frequently answer incorrectly.
■ Human-Level Abilities in Image Recognition, Comprehension and Reasoning Astra’s ability to solve all the CAPTCHA games means that it has reached a level comparable to humans in various areas, including visual and spatial reasoning through image recognition, contextual reasoning through instruction comprehension, and computer-use capabilities.
As a commercial AI model has rendered ineffective a tool used to distinguish humans from robots, major revisions to bot-blocking technology will now be necessary.
Concerns are also growing that AI could reach a level of losing control—breaking free of human control and refusing commands—sooner than expected amid this rapid evolution. Preparations for “AI deviation” and an “AI attack” have consequently become more urgent.\u00a0
As Astra’s performance was confirmed to be well beyond expectations, AI model performance-analysis firm Artificial Analysis revised the evaluation system for its Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index (AAII) twice over four days, raising Astra’s ranking.
Under the new system, version 4.3, Astra ranked joint first with Claude Fable 5.1 with a score of 53. On the 4th, the day it was released, Astra had entered the rankings in joint fifth place under the previous system, version 4.1, with 61 points—behind Anthropic’s Claude Fable 5.1, which ranked first with 66 points.\u00a0
Artificial Analysis explained that it had applied some features from the upcoming fifth version ahead of schedule to reflect the development of advanced AI technology.\u00a0
■ “Astra Effect” Lifts Semiconductor and AI Infrastructure Stocks Amid a Weak Market Despite simultaneous declines in the three major New York Stock Exchange indexes—the Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq—expectations for increased AI investment and strong semiconductor demand spread on the 8th due to the “Astra effect,” driving gains centered on semiconductor and AI-infrastructure stocks.

Experts analyzed, “The advancement of AI models is increasing demand for GPUs (graphics processing units) and HBM (high-bandwidth memory), while the flow of funds has spread into AI infrastructure fields such as optical communications and high-speed networks.” Stocks in the data center, power and cooling sectors also posted notable gains.
