[Financial News] Comedian Lee Su-ji has announced plans to take legal action over malicious posts and the spread of false information.
Lee Su-ji's agency, CP Entertainment, said on the 8th, "We have recently confirmed that posts and comments containing malicious slander, insults, personal attacks, false information, and defamation targeting Lee Su-ji have continued to be posted and circulated on online communities and social media platforms."
The agency emphasized, "As this is a serious matter that infringes on the artist's reputation and rights, we are thoroughly reviewing all related matters and responding accordingly." It added, "For acts involving the creation, distribution, or spread of malicious posts or comments, we plan to take all necessary legal measures, including civil and criminal action, in cooperation with our legal representatives."
It further stated, "To protect the artist, we will respond firmly under a zero-tolerance policy, without leniency or settlement," signaling a tough response.
In July, Lee Su-ji released a video titled "Civil Servant Kim Ji-young's Fight to Protect Her Iron Rice Bowl" on her YouTube channel, "Hot Issue Ji," covering the daily life of a civil servant. Controversy arose when a voice demanding a "reelection" was inserted while the video depicted a situation involving malicious complaints, prompting speculation that it carried a political message. Critics also said the video portrayed or caricatured protesters as malicious complainants.
The production team apologized, explaining that it had not intended to convey a position on any specific issue or political stance, and edited the controversial scene. Lee Su-ji also apologized, saying, "As a comedian whose job is to make people laugh, I should have been more careful," and, "I failed to fully consider that my performance and content could be hurtful or offensive to some people."
However, malicious comments targeting Lee Su-ji continued even after she posted her apology. Her agency ultimately appears to have announced a tough response and indicated that it would pursue legal action if necessary.
