Kangwon National University (KNU) Becomes First Among Regional Universities to Open Innovation Park Industry-Academic-Research Innovation Hub... Sets Out to Foster Gangwon Talent

[Financial News] Kangwon National University (KNU) has opened the Industry-Academic-Research Innovation Hub at its Campus Innovation Park, becoming the first regional flagship national university to do so.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups held the 'Kangwon National University (KNU) Campus Innovation Park Industry-Academic-Research Innovation Hub Completion and Opening Ceremony' at Kangwon National University's (KNU) Chuncheon Campus on the 9th.
Kangwon National University (KNU) and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) participated as joint project implementers for this innovation hub. After developing the first-phase site of approximately 28,000 square meters, LH completed the construction of the Industry-Academic-Research Innovation Hub within the site. The second phase, covering 38,000 square meters, is currently being developed under the leadership of Kangwon National University (KNU).
This project is a program that has been supported since 2019 through collaboration between the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. Campus Innovation Parks enable the government, universities, and LH to cooperate in establishing innovation hub buildings within campus sites to support the entry of startups and growth companies, as well as industry-academia-research collaboration.
The newly opened Industry-Academic-Research Innovation Hub at Kangwon National University (KNU) occupies a site area of 14,765 square meters and spans one basement level and eight floors above ground. It consists of state-of-the-art research equipment and facilities that can be jointly utilized by 98 independent companies and tenant organizations, as well as on-campus researchers and students, along with comfortable, customized support spaces for businesses. As of last month, 44 companies had signed contracts for 53 units and were in the process of moving in. A key feature is that tenant companies can stay for up to 10 years at rental rates lower than surrounding market rates.
Kangwon National University (KNU) Innovation Park has been designated as a specialized complex for the Gangwon Bio and Pharmaceutical National Advanced Strategic Industries, the Gangwon R&D Special Zone, and the Green Bio Industry Development Zone, enabling companies to receive support tailored to their specific industries and growth stages.
Kim Yi-tak, First Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, who attended the opening ceremony on this day, stated, "I hope that the Kangwon National University (KNU) Campus Innovation Park will go beyond being a simple rental space for companies and become a growth hub where young entrepreneurs realize innovative ideas from growing companies, communicate with the local community, and bring together companies and talent from the Gangwon region."
