[Financial News] With Korea Savings Bonds now eligible for inclusion in retirement pension accounts, Samsung Securities has prepared an event to coincide with the opening of subscriptions.
Samsung Securities announced on the 9th that it will hold the “Retirement Pension Korea Savings Bond Event” through the end of this year for customers with Individual Retirement Pension (IRP) and Defined Contribution (DC) retirement pension accounts.
Previously, Korea Savings Bonds could be purchased only through dedicated accounts. Starting this month, however, they can be purchased directly through retirement pension (IRP and DC) accounts.
Korea Savings Bonds are issued by the government, with the state guaranteeing payment of the principal and interest. If held until maturity, they accrue annually on a compound-interest basis at a rate combining the coupon rate and an additional interest rate. The principal and interest are paid in a lump sum on the maturity date.
Investment in retirement pensions is subject to a limit of 70% of total assets for risk assets, meaning the remaining funds must be invested in stable assets such as deposits. With Korea Savings Bonds now included among eligible retirement pension investments, investors have a broader range of options.
When invested through a retirement pension account, taxes on investment returns are deferred until withdrawal. If the funds are received as a pension, pension income tax applies.
Under the “Retirement Pension Korea Savings Bond Event,” customers with retirement pension (IRP or DC) accounts who complete subscription and allocation of Korea Savings Bonds through those accounts during the event period will be entered into a drawing, with 500 winners receiving a 10,000-won points coupon.
The subscription periods for Korea Savings Bonds are the 9th to 15th of this month, October 8 to 15, November 11 to 17, and December 9 to 15.
A Samsung Securities official said, "Korea Savings Bonds are expected to broaden customers’ investment options for managing their retirement pensions and contribute to managing their retirement assets."
