Incheon Metropolitan City Government’s Special Judicial Police Launch Intensive Probe into Everyday Illegal Activities Ahead of Chuseok

【Financial News, Incheon = Reporter Han Gap-su】 Incheon Metropolitan City Government’s special judicial police officers will conduct an intensive investigation into illegal activities closely related to daily life that could threaten citizens’ safety and health ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
Incheon Metropolitan City Government announced on September 9 that it would launch a planned investigation from this month through next month in five areas: illegal coastal and offshore fishing; violations involving country-of-origin labeling and livestock products during the Chuseok peak season; illegal distribution of pharmaceuticals; illegal emissions of air pollutants from wood-processing facilities; and the sale of drugs harmful to juveniles at sports stadiums.
The special judicial police will first intensify crackdowns in coastal and offshore waters, where fishing activity increases in the fall, targeting unauthorized or unlicensed fishing, the use of illegal fishing gear, and the distribution and sale of illegally caught fish.
To ensure the safety of food consumed during the Chuseok peak season, the city will strengthen inspections of facilities used by large numbers of people, nearby restaurants and businesses handling livestock products. Investigators will focus on falsely labeling the country of origin, labeling products in ways that could confuse consumers, and violating hygiene and labeling standards for livestock products.
In the pharmaceutical sector, authorities will inspect wholesalers and pharmacies for illegal distribution practices, including the sale of medicines by unqualified individuals and the handling of expired pharmaceuticals.
They will also examine the operation of air-pollutant emission and prevention facilities at wood-processing and other lumber-processing businesses, while closely checking compliance with laws and regulations concerning air quality.
At sports stadiums and in surrounding areas, authorities will investigate violations of the ban on allowing juveniles to enter or work at certain establishments, as well as the sale of drugs and other harmful products to juveniles. The effort is also aimed at blocking harmful environments for young people.
Through the planned investigation, Incheon Metropolitan City Government intends to proactively prevent illegal activities related to food, pharmaceuticals, the environment and juveniles that may increase during Chuseok and the fall season. It also plans to establish a safe living environment where citizens can enjoy the holiday with peace of mind and a sound distribution system.
