Korea University President Dong-One Kim Receives Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy from Yonsei University

Korea University President Dong-One Kim received an honorary doctorate in philosophy from Yonsei University.
Korea University announced on the 9th that President Kim received an honorary doctorate in philosophy from Yonsei University at a degree conferment ceremony held at Luce Chapel in Seoul on the afternoon of the 8th.
Yonsei University explained that it awarded the degree to President Kim in recognition of his contributions to educational innovation and the university's social responsibility, as well as to enhancing human dignity and future values, based on the philosophy of "unity of knowledge and action" that encompasses both scholarship and practice.
After graduating from the Department of Business Administration at Korea University in 1982, President Kim received his master's and doctoral degrees in industrial relations from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. After serving as a professor at the State University of New York's School of Business, he served as a professor in the Department of Business Administration at Korea University starting in 1997, where he held positions such as Dean of the School of Business, Dean of the Graduate School of Labor Studies, Minister of Planning and Budget, and Minister of General Affairs.
He also served as Chairman of the Employment and Labor Policy Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, President of the International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA), President of the Korean Society of Employment and Labor Relations, and a private member of the Presidential Regulatory Reform Committee.
At the degree conferment ceremony, Yonsei University President Dong-Sup Yoon stated, "Over the past century, the two universities have not viewed each other merely as competitors, but have been the closest partners in making each other better universities." He added, "President Kim achieved academic success as a world-renowned scholar in the fields of labor relations and employment, and during his tenure as President of Korea University, he led innovations in education and research, including the harmony between AI and human intelligence."
President Kim stated, "I am deeply moved and grateful to receive this precious degree from Yonsei University, with which we have written the history of higher education in Korea," adding, "I will accept this as encouragement and a request to deeply reflect on the essence of the university and to further broaden the path of knowledge toward humanity." He continued by emphasizing, "In the era of AI, humanity's direction must be a 'human-centered future,'" and highlighted that "the university is an important community capable of driving AI to operate in a direction beneficial to humanity."
