[Financial News] Kwangdong Pharmaceutical is bringing Kwangdong Wonbang Uhwang Cheongsimwon back to the market after suspending production in 2024 due to rising raw material costs.
Kwangdong Pharmaceutical announced on the 9th that it had resumed production of Kwangdong Wonbang Uhwang Cheongsimwon and would sell it in two forms: liquid and pills.
Kwangdong Wonbang Uhwang Cheongsimwon has been sold since 1974. It is an Uhwang Cheongsimwon product made with more than 20 types of traditional herbal ingredients, including 38 milligrams of musk and 45 milligrams of bezoar. It is classified as a “wonbang” product because it follows the original prescription recorded in old medical texts.
The production suspension was prompted by rising prices for bezoar, a raw material. Because international trade and supply volumes are limited, bezoar prices are highly volatile depending on supply and demand. According to Kwangdong Pharmaceutical, the price of bezoar raw materials in 2024 had risen by approximately 133% compared with two years earlier.
The company later decided to resume production as requests to restart supply continued to come mainly from pharmacies and consumers.
A Kwangdong Pharmaceutical representative said, "We decided to resume supply in response to market demand for the original-formulation product," adding, "We will work to ensure stable product supply and quality control."
Meanwhile, Kwangdong Uhwang Cheongsimwon consists of eight products, depending on their dosage forms and ingredients.
