[Financial News] Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin, among others, sent congratulatory messages to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on the 78th anniversary of the founding of the North Korean regime, known as the September 9 anniversary, emphasizing their strategic solidarity with North Korea.
According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Xi said in a message on September 9, "We are willing to strengthen strategic guidance over relations between the two countries, jointly promoting the development of the work of our respective parties and states," adding, "We will make greater contributions to promoting peace and stability, development and prosperity in the region and around the world."
Referring to his visit to Pyongyang in June, Xi said it had "opened a new chapter in the development of relations between the two countries." He added, "China and North Korea are socialist neighbors who protect and assist each other and share a common destiny," and stated, "It is the firm and unwavering policy of the Chinese party and government to safeguard, consolidate and develop China–North Korea relations successfully."
According to KCNA, Russian President Vladimir Putin also congratulated North Korea on the 78th anniversary of its founding in a message sent the previous day. He said, "We will work closely with Chairman Kim to further consolidate the comprehensive strategic partnership."
President Putin emphasized, "This will fully serve the interests of the peoples of the Russian Federation and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and contribute to ensuring security in the region and establishing a new, more just and multipolar world order."
The congratulatory messages from the leaders of China and Russia were published prominently on the front page of North Korea’s Rodong Sinmun. Leaders from Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Mongolia, Sweden, Belarus, Switzerland, Zimbabwe, Singapore and Equatorial Guinea also sent messages, reaffirming their friendly relations with North Korea.
Meanwhile, North Korea established its regime on September 9, 1948, with Kim Il Sung as premier of the Cabinet. It commemorates the date every year as the Day of the Foundation of the Republic.
