'Paju Café Freezer' Case May Involve at Least Three Accomplices; Another Person Allegedly Brought Victim There

[Financial News] It has been reported that at least three additional accomplices were involved in the case involving the discovery of the body of a woman in her 60s in a café freezer in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, in addition to the café owner in his 30s who has been detained.

According to reports by Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) on the 8th, a man identified as A met the victim, a woman in her 60s identified as B, in Seoul on the 3rd. He then traveled to Paju and brought her to C, the café owner in his 30s.
After B did not return for some time following her meeting with C, A reportedly returned to Yeongdeungpo District and informed B’s family of what had happened.
The investigation found that at least three additional accomplices had participated in the crime.
Police believe C belonged to an organization that forged department-store gift certificates and engaged in converting them into cash by buying and selling them. Investigators suspect that one accomplice was responsible for luring B to the freezer, while the other accomplices were also members of the gift-certificate organization.
A is suspected of being a gift-certificate broker and is reportedly not related to B by blood or marriage.

The café freezer where B was found dead was reportedly a space prepared in advance for the crime.
The freezer was reportedly built recently. Counterfeit gift certificates worth hundreds of billions of won at face value were also found inside.
During questioning by police, C reportedly stated to the effect that he had built the freezer "to prevent the counterfeiting from being discovered."
Earlier, Seoul Yeongdeungpo Police Station received a report at around midnight on the 4th that B was missing.
After tracing B’s movements, police transferred the case to Paju Police Station at around 2 a.m. that same day. About 14 hours later, at 2:30 p.m., officers found B’s body in a café freezer in Paju.
Police identified C, the café owner who had been with B when she disappeared, as a suspect. At 2:31 p.m., just before the body was found, officers arrested him in Yeongdeungpo. The Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court issued a detention warrant for C on the 6th.
Police formed an investigative team of 17 officers, including three violent-crimes squads from Paju Police Station’s Criminal Affairs Division, and are investigating the motive, whether there were additional accomplices, and possible fraud charges related to gift certificates.
A police official said, "It is true that an investigation into the accomplices is underway, but if related details become known outside the investigation, it could interfere with the case," adding, "Please refrain from speculating about unconfirmed relationships among the alleged accomplices."
