[Financial News] One of the alleged perpetrators who forced a woman in her 20s to fight under the so-called 'Yacha Rule,' resulting in her death, reportedly had a conflict with the victim before the incident.
On the 8th, Cheongju Sangdang Police Station announced that it had arrested B and C, a couple in their 20s, on suspicion of joint coercion after they allegedly forced A, a woman in her 20s, to fight two teenage girls, resulting in her death.
B and C are accused of forcing A to fight D and another teenage girl in succession at a park in Yongam-dong, Cheongju, at around 12:20 a.m. on May 29.
After the incident, B reportedly told police that A had fallen while playing tag and lost consciousness after her face was pinned under the buttocks of a person following behind her.
However, police reportedly found evidence through an autopsy of A’s body and a search and seizure of mobile phones that B and C had forced A and D to fight under the 'Yacha Rule,' even though they had said they did not want to fight.
'Yacha Rule' is slang for fighting bare-handed without restrictions on the location, rules, or protective equipment. It has recently spread among teenagers as a form of play and has emerged as a social problem.
Police stated that Yacha Rule is not merely a game but an unmistakable act of violence, and that participants may face criminal punishment even if they mutually consented to the fight.
Encouraging or watching a fight from nearby may also constitute aiding and abetting. Filming the scene or distributing the footage online may result in additional legal liability, including violations of portrait rights and defamation.
According to CJB Cheongju Broadcasting, the deceased A and the detained woman C had known each other and reportedly had a conflict before the incident.
C later demanded that D and other teenagers fight A. Although they did not want to fight, police believe B and C created an atmosphere in which it was difficult to refuse and forced them to do so.
A eventually went into cardiac arrest while fighting D and another girl. She was taken to a hospital but died.
D and the other girl, who are reportedly no longer attending school, were also said to have known A and C before the incident.
Police determined that D and the other girl may also have been forced to fight and are investigating them after booking them without detention on suspicion of assault resulting in death.
