President Lee: "South Korea and France to Closely Coordinate on Strait of Hormuz"; Macron Condemns North Korea’s Support for Russia

[Financial News] President Lee Jae Myung said on the 8th (local time), "The Republic of Korea and France have agreed to continue close coordination so that freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the stability of global supply chains can be restored as soon as possible." French President Emmanuel Macron also expressed France’s willingness to cooperate on a multinational mission to stabilize the Strait of Hormuz.
At a joint press statement held after his summit with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, France, President Lee said, "Last April, I took part in a conference on the Strait of Hormuz led by the United Kingdom and France, where I expressed the Republic of Korea’s willingness to contribute to the stability of the strait and freedom of navigation."
President Lee said, "We agreed to further expand the close cooperation between our two countries into a joint effort for peace and prosperity in the international community." He added, "At President Macron’s invitation, I am deeply honored that the Republic of Korea was able to participate in this year’s Group of Seven (G7) summit and contribute its voice to discussions aimed at building new partnerships, rebuilding international solidarity, and restoring balanced, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth. I once again express my gratitude for the president’s special consideration."
He added, "The Republic of Korea also promises to continue making responsible contributions to resolving the common challenges facing the international community through cooperation with the G7."
President Macron responded in kind. He explained, "In the Middle East as well, we must ensure freedom of navigation and, above all, find solutions peacefully." He added, "During the discussions last April, the two countries examined what role they could play, including with the United Kingdom, in reopening the Strait of Hormuz." He also said, "We will cooperate to restore peace in this region," adding, "The multinational mission will be a peaceful one, and we will cooperate once the necessary consent is obtained."
President Macron also said, "North Korea is now openly supporting Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine," adding, "On this issue, the two countries share a common vision of an international order based on international law."
He emphasized, "We seek to cooperate closely in responding to the major challenges facing international security and stability," adding, "For peace and security on the Korean Peninsula, the Republic of Korea can always count on France’s unwavering support."
