A Ministry of National Defense official explained on the 8th, "We dispatched a field investigation team to assess the situation in the Strait of Hormuz," adding, "The field investigation team was sent to assess the regional situation and safety conditions."
With the Ministry of National Defense even dispatching an assessment team to the Strait of Hormuz, concerns are emerging that a troop deployment at the request of U.S. President Donald Trump may effectively become a reality.
Cheong Wa Dae had continued to stoke speculation about deploying South Korean troops to the Strait of Hormuz, neither confirming nor completely denying the reports.
However, the official stated, "This investigation was not conducted on the premise of an actual troop deployment." In other words, nothing has yet been decided regarding the deployment.
The official also denied claims from some quarters that the United States had made a time-limited request to South Korea to deploy forces to the Strait of Hormuz. A Ministry of National Defense official stated, "It is not true that the United States requested the deployment of our assets to the Strait of Hormuz by setting a deadline."
