Gye-ri Kim: "Han Dong-hoon Has to Keep Doing Something"—Bluntly Criticizes Release of Recording

[Financial News] Attorney Gye-ri Kim, who represents former President Yoon Suk Yeol, criticized independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon for releasing a recorded call related to allegations that Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won solicited a favor concerning approval of a clinical trial plan for a new drug. Kim said of Han, "He is afraid that he will not attract attention right away."
In a post uploaded to Facebook on the 6th, Kim took issue with the way Han released the recording. She wrote, "I burst out laughing when I saw Han Dong-hoon personally create and post the transcript of the recording involving Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won on his own Facebook feed," adding, "He must be getting impatient."
Kim continued to criticize the release of the recorded material. She wrote, "Normally, people tip off media outlets or give it to YouTube commentators who chase sensational controversies and expose it. Whether on the left or the right, there is a market for people who make a living that way," adding, "He is afraid that if he does not attract attention right now and cannot keep up a fight over issues, he has to keep doing something—anything."
She also commented on politicians aligned with Han. Kim wrote, "Politicians in the pro-Han camp seem delighted that all kinds of tips are pouring in to Han Dong-hoon, but that shows how shallow they are," adding, "I hope you keep fighting as exposé-chasing commentators."
Kim joined the legal team representing former President Yoon Suk Yeol in his impeachment trial and is also representing him in his criminal trial. At the closing hearing of Yoon’s first trial on charges of being the ringleader of an insurrection in January, she targeted Han, saying, "The president of the Republic of Korea, who had the greatest democratic legitimacy, was impeached after martial law suddenly became an insurrection and an impeachment motion was introduced and passed, without any investigation, by Han Dong-hoon—not the main opposition party or members of the National Assembly—and some lawmakers who followed him."
The Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) also questioned how Han obtained the recording materials related to the allegations that Kim Seung-won solicited a favor. It subsequently filed a complaint against Han with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) on charges including leaking official secrets. DPK lawmaker Kim Dong-ah called it "a serious crime that clearly constitutes leaking official secrets, publicizing facts about a suspect’s alleged crime, and violations of the Personal Information Protection Act and the Public Records Management Act."
Kim Seung-won also met with reporters on the morning of the 7th and criticized Han’s release of the materials. He said, "Han Dong-hoon is waging a political offensive by gradually leaking investigative materials to the media, but leaking investigative materials is precisely something punishable as a criminal offense."
